Red Barn-raising with White Picket Fence

Description:

Red and white Log Cabin medallion with white picket fence border with appliqued flowers and ivy in corners. Queen sized. Note pictures of hand stitched log cabin blocks. Of all the quilts I've made this is my husband's favorite because he likes the red, and the rural perspective. Picket fence border designed by myself and hand appliqued flowers added for color and interest. The ivy was difficult to incorporate but we had English ivy growing around our garage at my childhood home and it was nostalgic and a 'must have' on my white picket fence which was also an item from my childhood home. Our barn wasn't red but actually painted white. This quilt was hand quilted on a large frame.

Size/Dimensions:

95" X 95"

Show History

We drove to Oregon in July for a summer vacation starting from Idaho Falls. I took some scraps to work on log cabin blocks on the way. I ran out of fabric in Boise, found a fabric store nearby and kept on going. Had to stop for more red and white strips in Lincoln Oregon and Sisters. All of the log cabin squares are hand stitched in the car. We attended a Luke Family reunion and I continued working on the quilt blocks while we sat and visited. I designed the picket fence pattern and then applique'd the flowers onto the fence that August again in the car while driving to Provo to take my youngest son to university.
The hand quilting took all winter to complete but quilt is ready to display in my boutique's 2014 season.
